What is Facelift Surgery?

Facelift surgery typically involves lifting up and tightening the skin and muscles of the face to regain a more youthful appearance. It may involve removing or sculpting fat deposits in the facial tissue.

Often performed in conjunction with work on the other areas such as eyelids, neck or forehead,  surgeons make an incision in the hairline at the temples, then proceed around the ear and finish in the lower scalp.

It takes the patient about four weeks to see how it’s going to look after the process, while overall healing may continue for up to a year.

Types of Facelifts or Rhytidectomy

There are several different types of facelifts available to those who choose to change or improve their face and help to achieve a more aesthetic face. Whether you are looking for a simple procedure for minor beautification or something more extensive like corrective cosmetic surgery, we’ll explain your options below.

Non-Surgical facelifts in Turkey

Our specialist surgeons and cosmetic technicians can offer you the latest in non-surgical facial enhancement, via the following methods.

Thread Facelifts

One of the more discreet types of procedures is known as the ‘thread facelift’ or the ‘lunchtime facelift’. Performed by a cosmetic surgeon, this is a quick 30 to 45-minute treatment that involves using a local anesthetic.

The procedure entails inserting threads into the skin, which are pulled taut to tighten the face. It pulls the skin upwards while biodegradable Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are left in the skin under which they dissolve. As this is not a permanent solution it lasts about 18 months before you need to get it done again or opt for another solution.

There are some types of threads that do not dissolve and can be adjusted at a later point through the original incisions to gain the desired lift again. If there is a need to redo it again the surgeon would recommend having it done after 2 years.

Things that this type of facelift can solve include minor sagging of the skin on the face, and also adjusting the fat on your midface and cheeks, as well as your jowls or jawline. Suitable candidates are usually in their 30s and 40s.

PDO Facelifts

  1. PDO cog threadsThese are the type of threads that have ‘barbs’ that are created to latch onto the skin similar to fishhooks and provide lift and support to different areas of the face.
  2. PDO mono threads These threads are a smoother option and involve sutures that aid in rejuvenating your facial skin and stimulate collagen production at the same time.
  3. PDO screw threads These can be one or two intertwined threads and help to restore any sunken parts on your face.

Liquid Facelifts

During the aging process, many women’s and men’s skin tends to go through muscle atrophy or a loss in muscle tissue, and the skin starts to become thinner. This is when your face starts to show the signs of aging. Those who are looking for a solution to restore the youthfulness and vibrancy of their skin can opt for a liquid facelift.

The procedure involves injecting the same liquid that is used in dermal fillers i.e. hyaluronic acid into the face, on areas such as along the jawline, and at the temples. This liquid is then sculpted manually by the surgeon’s hand to make sure it reaches the right areas to create more definition for the face.

This procedure can result in some bruising and swelling but usually goes away after a few days. The effects of this facelift procedure can last for up to 2 years and as you may expect getting a facelift using a liquid won’t do the best job and will be limited to a certain amount of drooping or saggy facial skin.

Those who are in their 40s would usually get this treatment done, and it will depend on how far the skin has gone in its aging process. It cannot replace a surgical facelift but it can provide a brief time of youthfulness. It is a great solution for areas that are hard to reach or rectify on the face and gives a slight enhancement to the cheeks.

Laser Facelifts

Another time-friendly less invasive procedure is the laser facelift which can help towards achieving a younger-looking face and skin. In comparison to the other non-surgical processes, this can cause some pain and intensity when being done. This is because of the heat that is produced by the laser, which penetrates through the dermis layer creating ‘tunnels’ that aid in stimulating collagen production and tightening the skin and muscle tissue.

Multiple sessions may be needed over a period of 4 weeks, as well as recovery time is needed. Results are usually evident within one week of getting the procedure done, however for those who have had it done the consensus is a noticeable difference after 6 months. It is great for those who want to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles on the face, however, it does not get rid of facial fat.

Stem Cell Facelifts

Stem cells have now been the trend in the medical sector and are here to stay. This is one of the most innovative and promising medical regenerative treatments which uses the body’s raw cells to generate new cells and help to promote healing in any part of your body. It is being used in research to help mitigate various health conditions such as Parkinson’s, Diabetes, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and Osteoarthritis, to name a few. And now it is also being used in cosmetic surgery, in particular facelifts.

One of the more unique types of facelifts is the Stem Cell method, done by extracting fatty tissue from other parts of the body such as the inner thigh or stomach and injecting it back into your face.

This is still in its research stages but many have vouched for it. The only drawback of this type of facelift is its cost. It is more expensive than most other options.

Now, let’s look at the surgical procedure options.

Surgical Facelifts in Turkey

Complete Facelift

As one of the more comprehensive facelifts available in some surgeries, the complete facelift covers the majority of the different parts of the face. It includes the upper, mid, and lower areas and is a better option for those who have significant changes on their face they need to rectify. If you’re looking for a more obvious change, then the complete facelift may be for you.

A skilled surgeon will make it look natural as opposed to showing obvious signs of surgery. The mark of an excellent facelift is that people will not be able to tell that you have had one done.

Endoscopic or Endolift Facelift

An endoscopic facelift is a marginally invasive facelift, usually performed through several small incisions the size of between 2-3 millimeters. These are hidden and scars are not visible. A tiny camera (endoscope) is used in the process and inserted into the tiny incisions in certain parts of the face and the skin is pulled. It can also be done on the neck areas.

Those who want to get treated for facial flaws like bags under their eyes or wrinkles between their eyebrows, sagging brows, and crows’ feet, can find this is the perfect solution. There is less trauma to the skin and a faster recovery time is expected too.

Planning a Facelift in Turkey

While you are still in the decision-making stages of whether to get a facelift or not, there are some things you should take note of.

  • Facelift surgery is not recommended if you have serious medical problems, a facelift should not be recommended by any surgeon. The suitable candidate would usually be in good physical and mental health.
  • If you have ongoing diabetes or high blood pressure problems there may be a higher risk of complications with a surgery such as this.
  • Those with good bone structure and skin elasticity will make the perfect candidates for a facelift.
  • Tobacco use or cigarette smoking can also increase the risk of complications and hinder the recovery and healing process. If you are considering getting a facelift it is highly recommended to stop smoking a few months beforehand.
  • Having reasonable expectations of the results is key, as your face will continue to age whether you get surgery or not, this is something that cannot be stopped but can be improved.
  • At least one week before your scheduled appointment, you should stop taking any blood thinners or aspirin.
  • With some surgeries the results can be permanent, however, having realistic expectations is also key to achieving the desired outcome.

What to Expect After a Facelift Surgery

Those who are undergoing the procedure should also keep in mind the things that they may experience after it is completed. These may include:

  • Numbness
  • Drainage from the incisions
  • Swelling
  • Mild to moderate pain
  • Bruising

If, however, there are other side effects such as those mentioned below, it is crucial to contact your surgeon immediately.

  • Irregular heartbeats
  • Shortness of breath
  • Severe pain on one side of your face or neck within 24 hours of surgery
  • Chest pain

What are the Facelift Procedure Steps?

  1. First, they make a small incision above the hairline, closest to your temples. This extends down to the frontal part of your ear and goes right around under the earlobe towards the back of the ear.
  2. Then they make a small incision under your chin towards the edge of the jawline, if this needs to be lifted as well.
  3. They will first remove any surplus facial skin
  4. Then they will pull the remaining skin upwards and back in place before stitching it into its new position
  5. Sometimes they may be a need to redistribute any tissue of facial fat surrounding these areas, which can be done
  6. Once the procedure is complete and they are happy with the distribution and tautness of the skin, they will bandage the face to keep any swelling or bruising at bay
  7. There is a need for you to stay at the hospital in Turkey overnight and the entire surgery will take up to 3 to 4 hours maximum.
  8. During the recovery period, painkillers and anti-inflammatory medication is provided if you experience any discomfort.

How Long Does it Take for your Face to Heal After a Face Lift in Turkey?

In most cases, when you get a facelift surgery completed in Turkey, because of the efficiency of the doctors and the latest technologies used, the results are usually successful and guaranteed. Healing will take some time and patients need to be patient.

Typically, it takes about 3 to 4 weeks for someone to fully recover from a surgery such as this so it is imperative you take enough time off work, and make use of the aftercare provided by the medical facilities when you book in with them.

Things such as bruising will be visible for at least 2 weeks after, and in some cases, seeing the full effect of the procedure will take around 9 months because the face needs to go through the processes.

Anything from showering to any strenuous activities must also be avoided at any cost, for at least the first 2 to 3 days. Try not to get the bandages wet as far as possible.

Difference Between the Mini and Full Facelift Surgery in Turkey

In comparison to the full option, the mini facelift solution has less cutting and dissecting involved. The mini option tackles areas such as the jawline or jowls, and neck regions.

The full option includes these as well as the midface and the full extent of the neck. Having realistic expectations of what to expect is key with this or any other cosmetic surgery.

Besides these two above there are also some surgeries that offer other options for people, that are more specific, such as:

Brow or Forehead lift: This type of surgery is meant for those who want to get rid of frown lines, lift loose-fitting eyebrows, and minimize wrinkles, it is mainly done along the hairline of the forehead.

Mid-Facelift or Cheek Lift: This option is particularly good for those who want to lift their cheeks to create more definition for their face. The incisions are made along the eyelids.

Temple Lift: When you are looking to get rid of wrinkles on your forehead or those pesky lines between your eyebrows, a bilateral incision is usually created along the hairline above the ears to correct this, through a temple lift surgery.

Neck Lift: Also known as a ‘Rhytidectomy’ and is recommended for those who want to lift both their neck and jawline. The cuts are made along with the sideburns and down the ear and can end at the back of the head or the posterior sections.
