Gastric sleeve surgery is a type of bariatric (weight loss) surgery. It works by reducing the size of your stomach, usually removing around 80% and leaving a tube-shaped “sleeve” about the size and shape of a banana. 1. We’ll plan your visit carefully before you leave the UK, including sending relevant scans and medical histories to the Turkish clinic.
2. You’ll have a Zoom consult with the surgeon before departure so that you can say hello, ask any questions you may have, and discuss what’s going to happen.
3. After arriving in Turkey and setting in, you’ll have an in-clinic consultation where a physical examination can take place before the surgery. You’ll also be given instructions on what to avoid before the surgery.
4. The surgery itself begins with a general anaesthetic. Following this, the surgeon will make small cuts in your abdomen (or one large cut, depending on what type of surgery is appropriate. After this, they’ll use gas to expand your abdomen so they have space to work, and will place a camera with a light on through the incision. This will help your doctor see exactly what they’re doing.
5. Creating the sleeve – Your surgeon will then divide and separate your stomach using a stomach stapler to create the smaller sleeve. The remaining part of your stomach will be removed, and your incisions will be closed.
